More before and afters....

Postby mr Henry on Sun Feb 05, 2012 6:03 am

This kitchen isn't a bad size for an older kitchen 12'x17'. Due to the 4 doors, two wells or trap doors in the floor, limited access to the underside of the floor and the location of the windows, this was the best I could come up with. I recycled the window on the left and reused it in my Parlor, that's an Anderson double hung, circa 1930.

This before picture made the kitchen look GOOD!!

No headers or sill plate for the window. I took out the cellulose insulation and replaced it with fiberglass.

Granite, stone and stainless, permenant or good for quite some time anyway. I tried to please the ex and let her choose the colors, black an white is okay but I'd like to have had more color...

If I had restored this kitchen it would have had a pot belly stove and a picture pump over the well so as long as I was doing it I said I may as well update it!

Mr. Henry, I have a bit of kitchen envy now, lol. My cabinets are oak (after I got them, I realized that little lady helping me was looking at a different set of cabinets than I was :( ) I would have liked to have had a different style and color. Color I can change, but for now I'll live with it.
I didn't realize Anderson windows went that far back. I love all the choices in your kitchen, great job. White and black is timeless.

Guys, before I came to this forum I really liked the contrast between old and new, right in the same room!! I felt I had to update the kitchen and baths and make it comfortable. Could you imagine a recessed 50" flat screen above this fireplace???? I don't think you can tell from this picture but when I refinished the floor I went out of my way to leave the wear pattern worn into floor boards....

This house is 1830 and was at one time owned by the local Blacksmith. My Realtor told me I saved it from the wrecking ball, considering the expence and the hours of my free labor, I think he was right... I'd like to link a PPS of the before and afters, I took a lot of pictures but maybe not as many as I should have. This is a pic a stranger gave me last week of the Blacksmith  Image
