Fridgidaire Stove Parts?

Postby Synrgystyk on Tue Feb 21, 2012 12:53 pm

We're really interested in picking up a Fridgidaire Model RM-65 stove (craigslist locally) but everything I'm finding online indicates that parts are nigh unto impossible to find. Does anyone have any good sites for vintage/antique appliance parts, manuals, etc. I can't seem to find the manual online (seller doesn't have it). The stove seems to be in pretty good condition but I don't want to not be able to find parts for it if we need them. (No way to see if it's working. It needs a new cord and plug and is currently on the seller's porch. The seller said he used it for years but never used the broiler, warmer, or rear burners. Yes, I'm skeptical.... )

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Hi, I just sent my burners for a 1950 Roper stove to Unity Stove. I can't comment, yet, on how good they are as I didn't get them back yet. They're located in FL. I had a hard time finding an antique appliance place that would help.
The email is unitystove@aol.com. HTH

Chris - not pleased with them at all. So glad I only sent in one set of burners and not both. Had to wait 2 months - surprisingly the person who repairs them had went on vacation - nothing was mentioned beforehand about that until I asked where the heck were my burners. She originally told me 2-3 weeks. There was always excuses. Then there was a backup on the glazing. The burners themselves were suppose to be as the old ones - high gloss - the new ones look like stove black dull. The grates are glazed but wrapped. No clue how that happened. She wanted more money - that was not happening. I still have to match light the front burner. Need to find another place that repairs/restores; I need to get the other side done. Would not recommend them at all. Oh, before I sent them out - in between deciding and getting her quotes - she constantly called/e-mailed. After I sent them - I had to constantly bug her on status. My other big mistake was paying in full...live and learn!

I've seen places online that supposedly sell parts and there's plenty of places that sell restores stoves and fridges...

I wish I could remember the names of the two places I emailed trying to get parts...one was for the Floyd Wells (stove). Back and forth a bunch of times then nada...nothing...no replies...I was trying to get new grates, since two of ours are broken/cracked. The other said they could get all kinds of hard to find parts, and I emailed them for a little piece for the Norge (fridge) and never heard back, even after a few inquiries. I am a little nervous of needing a part and not being able to get it, but I am at a point where I'd probably buy a similar unit and snag parts from it if needed.

I know what you mean - it's hard finding reputable places. I've tried countless ones from searches on the internet with either no reply or they just don't repair/have parts for my Roper. We thought about buying another Roper (craigslist/e-bay) but haven't found one that would have the same parts as ours for a really cheap price. But I would not give up on my Roper at all - cooks/bakes so much better than the "restaurant quality" Viking I had - what a piece of s**t that was. Hoping someone on here will have some referrals or ideas.

Yeah, I've gone the route of collecting parts from stoves that are unfortunately being scrapped. I'm sorry you had that experience, Cat, but glad you let us know. I got a shady feeling from Unity too.

I'm wracking my brains about someone in central or southern Illinois who used to advertise in the Old Appliance Club newsletter; as I recall they redid burners, but I never tried them out.

If you ever do figure out the guys from IL who do burners please let me know. I'm also looking for a new oven handle, and not a generic one as Unity wanted to sell me. I would love to have an original one. In fact, if anyone on this great OHW knows of any other stove repair/replacement parts peopkle please let us know! thanks!!!
