I just fertilized. It's sad to see the spots I couldn't water. 2 droughts since I've been here have taken a toll on the St. Augustine. It used to be so lush and pretty and now it's solid weeds. :( where I didn't water. :(

We've been blessed with rain and I'm hopeful it will continue.

For the last 3 weekends I've been outside working on the porch (got some great wicker furniture), the lawn (ran 2 big bags of weed killer through the spreader) an planting...and planting...and planting some more! I want to get outside over the next couple days & get some good photos. The yard is really coming along nicely...believe me, my back has been telling me so every day! :(

ooooo...lots of planting?! Yes, must have pics! Too early to really plant here and I'm really itching to get some kind of decent flower beds in this year. A cottage NEEDS a cottage garden!

Ok...first, I'm sure many of you remember my skinny little willow I got 3 years ago.
Image
Well, she has blossomed into a fairly large tree these days. I'm guessing she's about 20' or so high now!
Image

Weeded, added some miracle grow soil & a fresh layer of mulch. The Salvia & my rose by the back porch are now ready to grow nice & strong!
Image

After putting out weed killer under my shade tree 2 weeks ago, I loosened the soil, laid some landscaping fabric & topsoil & mulch. I'm hoping the Hostas really take off! My neighbor's mom gave them to me. They had come from her Father's garden after he passed away & had been growing at her place for the last 10 years, so even these are old house plants! :D
I will be adding some good top soil around the bare spots & putting down grass seed. I hope that takes off too!
Image

This fenceline is filled with a bunch of colorful daylilies. The section in front that looks like nothing but dirt, I planted 8 Tiger Lily bulbs! Can't wait to see them grow too!
Image

After trimming the dead stuff off and giving them a good shot of some Bayer Rose "stuff" (black spot killer) they already all have buds!!
Image

Got a couple nice big Boston Ferns hanging...
Image

Everything but the green chair is new/old. Got some from the local auctions downtown! That was fun!
Image

Walking up the steps of the porch...these are to the right. Snapdragons & Crocus
Image

More of the same on the Left...with the addition of a Bleeding Heart...
Image

And no porch is complete without a lazy kitty!!
Image

So...there it is! Lots of digging & weeding, but it's SO worth it! I have a few more sections that need attention, but it's all getting there. Slowly but surely!

Three years?!?   Talk about time flying. Your willow looks beautiful! In another season or two your perennials will fill out nicely and your yard is going to look amazing when everything is in bloom.

Something new this year is flowers on mats and flowers from seeds. I have two pans of impatiens that are growing on little "placemats." On April 15, they will be old enough to go outdoors by my white arbor in the front yard and just lay there with a little mulch on top. The itty bitty seeds are marigolds and zinnias. I killed a lot of zinnias, not knowing what I was doing.
Meanwhile, my husband is in charge of grass with a little bit of micromanaging from me. The front yard has never looked better. Thanks, dear. Later, pictures of his rose garden. I always promised him a rose garden.

I've been busy in my "hosta farm." From about six, they now number 30. Just dig, split, rinse and repeat.

In the backyard, it looks for the world like we have a pool. That's our little secret. It is green tarp to keep the weeds down until we bury the electric, put in a sidewalk, and, finally, fescue planted on mats that you just roll out. Voila. We are trying really hard to keep the bermuda vine at bay.

Kansas....about how long did it take for your "bunny effect"? :D

KathyJB...Good luck with those roses! They LOVE a good long soak in the evenings...and mix up some of this & give them a shot. Definately after a rain. Keeps the bugs & blackspot away.
