Hey girl, thanks for the tip. Bayer makes some really good products for your plants and yard. My auction buddy told me he doesn't fertilize next the the rose, so I'm going to try that out. So far they are looking pretty good. I want to buy some mulch for my flower beds now that the soil has dried out a bit. Sure hope the rain keeps a comin'.

I'll need to take some pictures soon. We have been building a fence by the house. I'll take some pictures of that too

utopia, all seven of your free hostas will be ready to split next year at this time if you feel like it. I've been working in my hosta "farm" for five springs. Some I've had to give away. I purposely kept it small until the roofing, painting, and guttering was completed. Now I can go crazy. I have two varieties but am hoping to get some variety. My motto is, "Free is good."

Does anybody have "naked ladies?" That's another free perennial that is so much fun to grow.

Well that's nice to know that they will fill out enough to split next year! I may even get more this season, so that will be even better.

Above, this is the photo of my "naked ladies." I have a spindly hydrangea that I'm nursing in the background. The naked ladies were free, and we bought the hydrangea. I am simultaneously discouraged and stubborn. Plants my husband orders that don't do very well tend to be mine to baby.



Above,this photo doesn't do justice to the number of buds this early in the season. Talk about Loaded. We are expecting hail on Saturday night. Oh, well.

Utopia, that's amazing growth for your willow! I hope the one I planted last year for drainage control does as well. Kathy and Kansas, both of you show pics with hostas in apparently sunny areas. I've always wanted to grow them, but my yard has very little shade. What is the general range of maximum sun exposure hostas can take in Zone 7? Thanks much!

Pick the shadiest spot and try just one. Hostas like water and shade. My hostas do ok in places where ferns would fry.

I am a late-to-life grower; I never liked to go outside and plant things until I retired and the kids were gone. Flowers are so much fun. Each day, I go outside and walk around the yard to see what is up and how it is doing. I guess I like the "progress" aspect of it. Vegetables don't appeal to me so much, and we don't compost. I can see a time where both might be appealing but now isn't the time. We've had failures, too. I keep thinking of the dozen peonies that never came up.

We finally got our fence up for our new property.

It's 1/2 a block. There are 2 - 1/2 lots 25'x150' that I don't have the deed to. One, the owners are probably deceased and the other belongs to a woman in El Paso, Tx who stays current on the taxes which are about 10 bucks a year. It is my goal to get a deed to both properties.
