Wow! I know this thread was resurrected by a spammer but those floors look awesome. The second room in your photos is about what mine look like now - did you scrape all the dirt out of the gaps between the boards or did you just sand and finish over top of the dirt?

Neswick, I scraped it all out! I was hoping that being a bedroom they may not have tracked in so much dirt but..... If you look closely at the photo of the bedroom there's a spot where they cut the floor for wiring during the 30s so I left it un-nailed thinking that's a good hiding spot under a carpet

What method did you use to refinish these floors?

I have a set of pine barn planks coming in for the front porch and this is exactly what I want them to look like.

Nice work!

Gezzzzzz, great job on the floors. We have floors with some what the same look. They were restored in the early 60's have the same look but just not so nice any more. Still has that great patina and all the flaws of a 100 years plus floor.

I'm scraping all the dirt out of mine too - very tedious work for sure.

I barrel sanded and edged in 36 and 80 grit and ran a vibrating buffer/sander in 80 to remove as many drum and disc marks as possible. The lumber I used for the repair is Oak the same age as the other flooring. I'm not to thrilled with the finish, I vacuumed as much as I could and tacked the floors and particles are still visible in the finish. Just too many cracks I guess. I spent 6 hours hand crafting thresholds from Poplar, it has the same subtle streaks of green as the bedroom but I think I'll stain it so it's not so clean looking! Also I have to say, that's the shiniest satin finish I ever saw.....
