Crown rot can be very destructive to plants growing in heavy soil. Large areas of plants may die in the first few warm, humid days of spring. A white fungal growth forms at the base of the stem. The plant eventually turns black. Avoid infested soil and improve soil drainage. No chemical control is listed.
