Carpinus japonica--Japanese Hornbeam
Japanese hornbeam grows slowly to 50 feet. The tree is flat topped, fan shaped, and has a red fall color. The fruit bracts are quite prominent. This member of the genus is not so well known as C. betulus or C. caroliniana.
