Celtis occidentalis--Hackberry

List of files and visuals associated with this text.

Hackberry is not the most desirable tree. It is often used in street plantings as it tolerates most soils, and grows in sun or partial shade. The tree reaches a height of 30 to 50 feet, is a rapid grower, and transplants easily. The mature bark is rough and corky and the fruit is small and turns from orange red to purple.
