A shrubby plant that will grow 5 feet tall and can be used on difficult sites. The main ornamental trait is the flowers which are yellow on the species but can be red, pink, white or purple on cultivars. Expect some winter injury in cold climates but the plant usually manages to recover from winter injury. The plant has a rounded growth habit and prefers sandy soils.
