Carolina silverbell grows 30 feet tall and spreads 20 feet or more. It is a large shrub or small tree that grows best in sun or semi-shade and a rich, well drained soil. Carolina silverbell is short-lived, grows slowly and is easy to transplant. The plant tolerates pruning and is useful in shrub or woodland borders. The white, bell-shaped flowers are produced in midspring. The flowers, produced with or before the leaves, are sometimes tinged pink.

One cultivar is listed: 'meehanii'--shrublike with small flowers.
