This small bluish black beetle is most often found on willow.
The insect overwinters in protected spots on the bark as an adult. In the spring after growth begins the insects emerge and lay eggs. The eggs produce black larvae which feed on the leave. The larvae feed for about a month then pupate to produce adults. There can be more than one generation per year.
The injury can be either skeletonizing or they may be completely eaten.
The insect may be controlled with methoxychlor or Orthene.
