Iresine - Blood Leaf, Achyranthus

Iresines have colored or variegated foliage. They require high light intensity and a moderately moist soil. A minimum temperature of 50 degrees is needed in winter and pinching keeps the plants shapely. Iresines must be brought inside before danger of frost in fall.

Propagation is by easily rooted softwood stem tip cuttings. Take the cuttings in late winter or spring. Leaf bud cuttings may also be used. Stem cuttings root in 1 to 2 weeks and leaf bud cuttings take 2 to 3 weeks.
