Obedient plant is easy to grow but may become a weed if not kept under control. The pink or white flowers are borne in August. Obedient plant is so named because the florets remain in position if bent. The plant grows in most soils and in sun or partial shade. The better the soil the faster the growth, leading to more frequent division. Obedient plant grows 3 to 4 feet tall.
Frequent division in fall or spring may be needed to keep it under control. Seed germinates in 2 to 3 weeks at 70 to 75 degrees.
