Pinus cembra--Arolla Pine, Swiss Stone Pine

Swiss stone pine grows in sun or in partial shade and tolerates most well drained soil. The tree can reach 70 feet but is usually smaller. This hardy, long lived tree can spread 20 to 30 feet. Swiss stone pine has a slow growth rate and transplants well.

There are a few cultivars: 'Aurea'--yellowish foliage; 'Columnaris'--more narrow and columnar; 'Sibirica'--shorter leaves and bigger cones.
