Pinus nigra--Austrian Pine, Black Pine
List of files and visuals associated with this text.
Austrian pine is fast growing and grows to 75 feet or more. It will stand some dryness and exposure and tolerates road salt. The tree is susceptible to diplodia tip blight and for this reason should probably not be used in landscapes. Austrian pine is difficult to transplant so should be moved balled and burlapped after being root pruned. Potted plants may also be used.
There are few cultivars: 'Austriaca'--stout, broadly ovate; 'Pyramidalis'--pyramidal.
