Bamtex bamboo flooring is an engineered wood product made from bamboo. It's a very "green" wood - as in environmentally friendly. Bamboo is actually a fast-growing grass and South China has more than 2,000,000 acres of bamboo, making depletion unlikely.
The hollow bamboo grass is cut into long strips and then milled into rectangular shapes. Afterwards, they're put into a steam and pressure chamber and then kiln-dried. The strips are then glued together in layers, vertically and horizontally and placed into a press.
The result is flooring that's denser than hard maple and more stable than red oak, according to the manufacturer.
