The Old House Web
Eagles steel Premier entry door offers the exterior durability of steel and the interior warmth of wood. Available with a smooth or stainable wood-grain texture, both made from 24-gauge galvanized steel, the door's exterior wont chip, rot or warp. Doors are 1-7/8" thick and have a core of urethane foam for energy efficiency five times greater than wood, according to the manufacturer.
Seven wood species are available for the interior. Entry doors have adjustable thresholds and an adjustable hinge plate system that allows the door to be moved up or down without relocating the hinges. Vinyl weatherstripping on the bottom of the door can be replaced without removing the door.
There are 17 style options for doors with a variety of choices for glass inserts, side lites and transoms. In November 2004, a 3' x 6'8" door with a 9-lite plain glass panel cost $600.
