Millwork: Stairway to go

Custom-built interior stair components are difficult to find. Now you can buy them in vertical grain fir and hemlock.

Handrails are $6 per foot; balusters are $3.50 to $3.84 each. The large box newel, in hemlock, is $176 (November 2003).
