Hvac: Regulation

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerA wood stove can make your living room toasty warm, but leave the back rooms of your house cold enough to freeze pipes. ThermGuard is designed to help prevent this problem. The device connects directly to the thermostat and periodically turns the furnace blower on, circulating the air and minimizing hot and cold spots.

It can also be used with boilers and will turn on circulating pumps, moving a small amount of hot water through pipes to prevent freezing. Price is $69.99 (September 2004).
