Refrigerators: Monitor Top

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerGeneral Electric introduced its Monitor Top refrigerator in 1927, quickly rendering drippy ice boxes obsolete. The model was discontinued in 1936, but with a little luck (and even more money) you can have one of these gems in your vintage kitchen.

AntiqueAppliances.com reconditions and sells old appliances like these pictured. The original model of this refrigerator sold for about $300. A fully restored Monitor Top starts at $3,400, plus shipping. (September 2004).
