Fein was the first to introduce this type of tool. Its a small sander with an oscillating head that can also can be fitted with a scraper or a saw blade. It can remove old grout and window putty, sand trim and scrape paint. It weighs about 2-1/2 lb. and has a 16-ft. power cord, making it easy to tote up a ladder or fit into a tool bag. Oscillations can be adjusted from 12,000 to 21,000 per minute, and heads for both hook-and-loop and pressure-sensitive sandpaper are available. Hook-and-loop paper will stick to the sanding head more than once, allowing sanding grits to be changed at will; pressure-sensitive paper sticks only once.
