Makitas Model 5007NBK is a durable if basic circular saw that will handle sheet goods, trim and dimensional lumber. Its 13-amp motor provides plenty of power, and its 11-lb weight makes the saw a good compromise between smaller and lighter trim saws and heavy worm-drive saws favored by many full-time professionals. Its cutting capacity is 2-3/8 in. at 90 degrees and 1- 3/4 in. at 45 degrees. The saw comes with a plastic carrying case and a carbide-tipped blade. It cost $240 in September 2004.
