A long, hot shower takes away the chill of winter, but with heating oil running $2 a gallon, it's a pricy way to get warm. The standard shower head uses up to seven gallons of hot water per minute. The Earth Massage showerhead from Niagara Conservation uses as little as 1.75 gallons of water per minute, which the company says can save more than 11,000 gallons of hot water per year.
The company says this one, model N2917-V, is designed to produce greater water force at low water pressure. It comes with an on/off valve for soaping up. In October 2004, it cost about $14.
