Countertops: Indigo Granite

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerSolid surface acrylic countertops are an alternative to stone, but with a softer price. Shown here in Indigo Granite, the countertop is durable, non-porous and heat resistant. It looks like stone because it is made of 75% natural minerals.

The solid acrylic cuts like wood and can be thermoformed (bent using heat) into any shape. After installation, seams disappear from view. Clean up requires little more than a fast swipe with a damp cloth. Nicks and scratches are repaired by sanding with a fine grit paper. Choose from 60 colors, and expect to pay about $40 - $60 per square foot (December 2004).
