Hand Tools: Fat Max Anti-Vibe hammer

Scott Gibson, contributing editor
Victorian charmerA patented tuning fork in the handle of the Fat Max (model 51-944) reduces the shock and vibration that can lead to repetitive stress injuries, according to manufacturer Stanley. The head and handle of the 20-oz. hammer is made from a single piece of tool steel for durability.

Stanley says the rubber handle wrap is textured to provide good grip even in the rain, and the enlarged handle makes the tool easier to hold without fatigue. The hammer is designed for common and finish nails and should not be used on hardened steel tools or hardened nails. In December 2004, the Fat Max Anti-Vibe cost about $28.
