Hand Tools: Hammer lite

Scott Gibson, contributing editor
Victorian charmerVaughan hops on the lighter-is-better bandwagon with its 16-oz. Ti-Tech titanium framing hammer. According to the manufacturer, the lightweight design allows faster, more powerful head speed with less recoil and shock than a traditional steel hammer.

The hammer comes with forged steel strike caps in either a smooth or milled pattern that are attached with a free-floating in that helps to absorb shock. By switching between strike caps, the hammer can be used either for rough framing or finish work. In December 2004, the 16-oz. Ti-Tech was available for about $90.
