Countertop Materials: Naturally beautiful

Created by mineral deposits and quarried in Vermont, soapstone makes a durable countertop, impervious to stains and burns. Occasional oiling is all that's required to maintain the stone. Choose from two natural shades: soft charcoal or dark green. Countertop thickness is about 1-1/4". Other options include a matching backsplash, drain board and integral sink. Installed price for countertop is $70 - $85 per square foot (March 2005).
