Ceilings: Beam Me Up

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerThese freshly-milled beams may have began life as a country barn or city warehouse. They're at least 70 years old (and in some cases, much older).

After being salvaged, this lumber is milled and offered in a variety of finishes. Because of its age, it won't shrink or warp and it is often available in unusually large sizes, ideal for exposed beams.

Choose from a variety of finishes (white washed, natural or stained), in a variety of textures, ranging from surfaced (or planed) to rough (with original saw marks and nail holes).

Wood choices are douglas fir, redwood and assorted hardwoods. This company asks for "plenty of lead time" to fulfill these custom orders.
