Reclaimed Flooring: Old to New

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerIn addition to classic good looks and a rich patina, there are many other reasons for using old wood for your new flooring project.

Because these planks are milled from reclaimed lumber, they've been thoroughly dried and won't shrink, twist or warp. Because they're first growth lumber (having grown slowly and naturally in forests), the wood is dense and strong.

To prepare the lumber for use, it's run through a planer in a way that preserves most of the original patina. It can be milled into almost any size, width or length required.

Lumber options are Douglas fir, pine, redwood, cedar and some hardwoods.
