This new table is built with old wood -- Douglas fir salvaged from buildings in and around the Pacific Northwest. In addition to the tree-saving benefit, old wood has other advantages. It's dense, strong and stable, making it less prone to cracking.
In the last decade, this California-based furniture manufacturer has created 150,000 pieces using salvaged lumber. Eric Gellerman, the owner of The Wooden Duck, says that about 80% of old buildings are demolished without building materials being salvaged.
