Reclaimed Flooring: Old Growth, New Life

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerThe irreplaceable first-growth lumber found in old barns and houses is recycled in this newly milled pine flooring.

The 3/4"-thick floor is long leaf yellow pine which was reclaimed from a building facing demolition. The flooring is naturally distressed and retains its original patina.

After being milled into tongue and groove flooring, it's kiln dried and cut into lengths of 5' to 16', with an average length of 12'.

  • Long leaf yellow pine is $7 per square foot (April 2006).
  • Dimensions: 3/4" thick, 3 to 5" wide, random lengths of 5' to 16'.
