Flooring: Corker of an Idea

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerCork flooring is not only a good insulator of noise and temperature, it is naturally free of allergens.

It's also a sound choice ecologically. It can be harvested repeatedly (every decade or so) from the bark of a cork tree and these trees often live for hundreds of years.

Shown here are reclaimed cork tiles, which are 3/16" thick. The color is medium-dark.

  • Cork Tile is $5 per square foot (May 2006).
  • Dimensions: 12" square x 3/16" thick.
