Bricks: New Again

Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Victorian charmerDescribed as "Old Colonial Brick", these bricks are getting a new lease on life, having been salvaged from an old building in Indiana.

Re-using salvaged brick is one way of "building green," and the older brick has a unique color and patina that's hard to duplicate in a new brick.

Bricks are offered in reds, oranges, salmon, cream and more. This company also offers salvaged pavers, which once lined America's city streets and are suitable for use in construction.

  • Common Bricks and Pavers measure 4" x 8".
  • Each brick costs 80 cents; pavers cost $1.50 (September 2006).
