Christopher Dresser is the great futurist amongst Victorian designers. Understanding that the future of design would be shaped by technology, his embrace of machine production made him one of the world's first "name" industrial designers. His visionary abstractions of plant life presaged the Art Deco style of the 20th century.
The "Watkins Glen Frieze" pictured here is an excellent example of Dresser's proto-Deco style. The futuristic "Watkins Glen Frieze" surmounts a wall of "Batchelor Button" wallpaper.
"Dresser Ceiling" forms the central ceiling pattern, printed in reflective mica pigment. All patterns are from the Dresser Tradition chapter of the company's catalog.
