The Great Gingerbread House, on display at Aventura Mall in South Florida, is the largest completely edible gingerbread house in the southeastern United States.
Created by master and student chefs at famed Johnson & Wales University, the mammoth structure measures 18-feet high, 22-feet long and 12-feet wide, and took more than 3,000 hours to make. It required more than 1,500 pounds of flour, 2,500 pounds of candy, 2,000 eggs and one ton of royal icing.
The Aventura gingerbread house can literally be walked through by mall visitors throughout the holiday season. With over 2,500 pounds of candy provided by M&M Mars and Nestle, the house is truly a sweet creation. J & W's Director of Culinary Education, Michael Moskwa, M. Ed., coordinated this mammoth sweet project that took thousands of hours to make.
With over 250 specialty stores and six renown major retailers Aventura Mall is located on 196th Street and Biscayne Blvd. just south of Ives Dairy Road.
The hours are Monday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Aventura Mall will also have extended holiday hours throughout the holiday season.
