Wainscoting

Wainscoting is the name given to wall paneling that covers the lower portion of an interior wall and is often topped with a chair rail. Beadboard, decorative paneling, or tongue-and-groove boards are most frequently used for wainscoting. Originally used as a barrier against dampness, today wainscoting is mostly decorative.
