Sometimes hardware breaks, but more often, it is discarded in favor of something more modern. Fortunately, a number of companies forage for discards and offer antique door knobs from ornate brass to cast iron to crystal, hinges, window and shutter hardware, pocket door hardware, doorbells and much more. The old adage, the devil's in the details, certainly applies to restoration work, whether a single piece of furniture or a whole building.
