Jewel of the Orient
These homeowners were determined to have their stock plan condo have rooms with a personal touch. They started with the bathroom.
The bathroom was relatively small, but the homeowners wanted a large shower, vanity and storage facilities. Designers relied on the simple, clean lines of Japanese design to create a unique vanity. The center is bowed out and the ends gently tapered to create width for the sink and to soften the entrance. Short, open floating bases support the vanity.
The concrete countertop -- imprinted with a careful selection of leaves, dark cherry wood and paint colors -- reflects the themes of nature. Modern chrome and steel are a nice contrast in functionality and form.
This room earned a third-place award in the large bathroom category of the National Kitchen and Bath Association's 2003 Design Competition.
