Pet project
Getting sent to your room would be a treat if the space was like this one designed for a 10-year-old boy.
The challenge was to fit a stereo, TV/game system, books, dresser, desk, hamster with a Habitrail cage, and a 10-year-old boy into a 10 x 12 bedroom.
Designers took advantage of a child's natural proclivity to climb and installed a loft bed to maximize the floor space. A cathedral ceiling makes room to raise the bed. A queen-size bed provides room for an office below the bed and growing room for the growing boy. The designer selected warm, maple wood furniture, which should last well into adulthood.
This room earned a third-place award in the other rooms category of the National Kitchen and Bath Association's 2003 Design Competition.
