Re: Florex glass ? When was it first made?

I remember seeing this design in an old edition of "Old House Journal" and it stated that it was produced by the Pittsburg Plate Glass Company (Pittsburg, PA) in the late 1800s if that helps. No other information was given.

Re: Florex glass ? When was it first made?

you just helped me out too. I have the same glass in a side door off of the front porch, and all I could ever find it referred to was florentine glass. Mine appears to be original and is in a door that I find in an 1895 Montgomery Ward catalogue. The door knob set also dates to late 1880s/early 1900...

Chimney question

I have a question about chimney construction. My home was once smaller than it is now; the chimney in the attic shows the original roof slope, and the mortar below it still retains the shape of clapboard siding (as if when the chimney was built, mortar was packed into crevices of pre-existing siding...

Can you help me identify these saw marks/materials

Can someone please help me identify the saw marks on these rafters and sheathing boards? I think they are circular saw marks, but I want to be sure. Also pictures is my chimney, some square nails from the original construction, and a bottle neck found under the house that I am also trying to date if...

Re: What is this pit?

Thank you Sombreuil_Mongrel, I'm starting to lean in that direction too but was just confused because this does not conform to most old cisterns that I've seen online that others have found. I would like to try to get this operational again. I suppose I would have to cement the bottoms and try to wa...

Re: What is this pit?

No, James, to my knowledge I've never heard of anyone growing tobacco in this area. I did some more digging this weekend. There is another pit that is the same size adjoining this one so that the two pits are about 5'x5' each and parrallel to the kitchen wing. There is evidence that a terra cotta pi...

What is this pit?

https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10202705249732338&set=pcb.579711535433969&type=1&theater I uncovered a brick pit near the house this weekend and have been digging it out. I hit bottom last night. It is about 5'x5' square and about 5' deep. The walls are brick and mortar. Once I found the...

Wavy Glass

I've been trying for a few days to register on wavy glass. Hated to leave this place, but it seems the posts are becoming fewer and fewer. I'm not receiving the activation emails at wavy glass (have tried several times), but there's no way to contact an administrator without being logged in... anyon...
