Re: Anyone cleaned out their cistern?

Ummmm if you lose a treasure hunter you just shovel back in any removed dirt and walk away...no one is the wiser

What's the risk heh heh.

Re: Coping with a basement laundry

Stackables....they fit in the space of a small closet (3x3) and make your life a whole lot easier. I don't like doing laundry..e cellar laundry was a total bummer (outside entry through a hurricane in all seasons I swear). I'm turning one bedroom and three bathrooms into laundries. If you don't thin...

Re: Anyone cleaned out their cistern?

I had treasure diggers clean mine out (though I did the last six feet). I have hundreds of bottles, dozens of of chamber pots and the parts to a model t or a to show for it. Mine is 15x16 or so. If yours was accessible to throw trash into don't use a regular contractor. You can find treasure diggers...

Re: I find the nicest stuff in the trash (with pics!)

I was looking at the pictures and thinking...gad that would be wonderful in a kitchen LOL then saw you felt the same thing. I actually wouldn't mind the little beating it's had over time. :) I think it looks loved (and we can just forget about the fact that they threw it out LOL). It's wonderful. Fu...

Re: Finished remodel for bathroom and kitchen/laundry

I took out two clawfoot tubs last week :) Ours were so close to the toilets that the whole room was squeezed. I know about making choices like that and sometimes it's worth it to make the house flow. Your new spaces must be a joy. I like the tile work in the bathroom quite a bit. It feels right even...

Re: kitchen arrangement issues

When you are on gardenweb look at kitchens with soffits that have been clad with wood. There are some very inexpensive and wonderfully disquised soffits that have been done there using either doors (obviously fake) that match or just wood that matches and then trimming out the top with a simple crow...

Re: kitchen arrangement issues

Can you recess that big honker into the wall? You basically pull off the drywall (plaster?) and frame around the fridge tucking it back about 4 inches if you're lucky, right against the wall on the other side. I did this in one house and it worked wonderfully to get it back to cabinet debth without ...

Re: Mini-Split Heat Pump

:) Yes ours is definately about being comfortable. In addition we have the added benefit of our basement (which is a daylight space with 1 1/2 thick brick walls) is no longer musty smelling. Since that's our main living space (family) it's nice to not walk down and catch that wiff of damp must. Even...

Re: Worries - first-time "old" home-owner!

Two years in our old box and I've learned one valuable lesson. Well maybe two... First, consider that the dang box has stood for over 100 years so it's likely it's going to hang out a few more unless we can see daylight through a hole....which only happens occasionally in the roof... And secondly, a...
