Re: Range Hood Exhaust wall vents?
All these months later i've installed the exhaust vent. Airking 6" galvanized vent cap with a damper. I even took a few minutes to cook up a copper screen to keep pests out. Never enjoy cutting a hole in the house, but with a 6" hole saw it went fairly easily. Best part is that the underlying origin...

Re: A gem found in our (h)ell
similarly we tried to integrate a double drainboard youngstown sink in our kitchen renovation, but chose to go with a china farmsink more in keeping with the period. The resulting kitchen offers a bit more counterspace, and looks "like it should"

Would work great in a laundry area, or off the main kitchen in a butlers pantry closet or enclosed porch utility area... possibly even a garden potting shed with the drain piped through the wall, and hooked into rough garden-hose fed supply lines.

Re: We found the missing door! (Facade progress)
That looks great.
Has me wondering a bit about the function of a gable door inside a farmhouse.
Could it have been in part for sweeping out the upstairs? Loading large things in and out of the house? purely decorative? former second entrance?
I'm coming up empty, any idea?

Re: Installing Butcher Block countertop
Yes cooking oil will go rancid, and can remain gummy or tacky. Mineral oil is fine, but comes from petroleum and does not cure to a hard finish. Whereas tung oil and to a slightly lesser extent linseed oil will soak in and harden/cure into a finish which preserves the wood while protecting it from m...

The wood is oak, and the color is a richer brown in person... much less golden green than pictured.
Got them at ikea, and while they are not top quality countertops they look great at fit into our kitchen budget and timeline.

Need to sand the raised grain down once and then finish with one more coat of oil and buff to...

Re: Installing Butcher Block countertop
Just bought some oak butcher block counter tops a few nights ago, and they're sitting in the garage waiting to be sealed with a few coats of tung oil before we install them. Planning on coating all sides once or twice, and the work surface with one or two additional coats. No idea how they'll hold u...

A small galvanized vent like The one on your house Casey would look perfect on my place.
Copper is beautiful, but a bit out of character with my house and neighboorhood.

Take extra sealing oak for outdoor use, thee open pore structure can absorb moisture more readily.
