Re: Roof: polyisocyanurate foamboard advice needed
They probably used the roll type vent, which can be easily crushed when nailing the shingles onto it. They should use the baffle type (hard plastic). Another common problem is that they forget to cut the underlay. Do you have adequate soffit venting?

Re: Addition!
A bit more progress today with the end wall. It's been windy and cold so it wasn't much fun handling material. In retrospect I wish I went with board siding. More expensive for sure, but sturdier and we would be able to install it from the inside for the most part.

Re: Addition!
We had a good amount of progress this week. Most of the roof is on the addition and the roofer was hoping to be done mid next week, but I think that is going to be ambitious. We had a couple loads of back fill delivered and we spent yesterday filling in around the foundation. It certainly makes a bi...

Re: Doorway Trim - Not enough clearance
Same situation for me, the cabinets were installed and ended up a couple inches too close to the door. Actually, the piece of trim I used was already trimmed from the previous house it was installed in. I had to add a piece between the cabinets and countertop. :) 536783_700308575055_276924389_n.jpg

Re: Insulation questions- moisture, no soffit vents, etc.
1) Depends how far north you are. Up here in Canada a poly vapour barrier is the norm and code. As you get down south it seems to vary. A lot of emphasis nowadays is being put on air tightness instead of vapour barriers. Would you be able to slide faced batts into the cavities from above? 2) Do you ...

When I'm done I'm hoping that the only hint that it isn't original is the straightness of the wallsTujo wrote:Wow, what fantastic progress! I'm impressed with how well the new addition looks like its going to be a seamless part of the house.

Re: Potty suggestions anyone?
I'm very happy with my Caroma dual flush, which is a $300+ toilet. I suspect people who have had problems with low flow toilets have cheap ones. It's something you use every day, so this is not the place to save a buck! Toilets are rated with MAP testing, which I won't go in detail but the higher th...

Re: Foam Panel Wall System in a Rubble Stone Basement
I think the best option for rubble basements (any basement, but rubble in particular) is to have the insulation and waterproofing on the outside. I know this makes it a much larger pain in the ass project, but at least currently the heat from the inside keeps it above freezing. If you insulate/water...

Re: Cast Iron pipe and strange clay thingy --what is it?
I think my kitchen sink was separately drained from the septic system at one point (or there was an outhouse instead of a septic system). The clay pipe may be drainage or an old weeping tile.
