Re: Jane Powell

Wow. I met and spoke with her for quite awhile a few years ago at the Grove Park Inn. She sure knew bungalows. Too young.

Re: Selling off 1920's in Chicago

Our dining room light fixture came from a Murco auction as did all the historic brick for our sidewalks and some of our perennials. The contents are being sold for one of 2 reasons...either the home is going to be demolished or it's going to receive a gut interior remodel.

building code requirements for closet lighting

By chance, is anyone current on what is and isn't allowed for a light fixture that's inside a clothes closet? I know there are rules, but I thought I'd try you guys first for a quick answer. Thanks.

Re: Horizontal paneling?

A PO put horizontal paneling in one of our bedroom closets. The edges of the boards are THE WORLD's WORST dust trap ledges. Getting rid of this paneling has finally made it to the top of our "get rid of it" list. Work starts in a few weeks.

Recently learned that if you post pictures to Pinterest, the small print says that you agree to give them permission to sell your photos and they get to pocket the proceeds.

Re: Visiting Niagara Canada side?

We went to Niagara Falls last year. We drove and parked on the US side, paid our .50 to walk across the bridge, spent time on the Canadian side and then walked back. The speed of our walking was much faster than the speed of the cars on the bridge! I recommend the stroll. We also took the Maid of th...

Re: SInking porch = new porch posts

Our brick front porch was sliding sideways along the front of the house...basically the porch was going north while the house stood still. We had 5 helical piers put in - $2500 per pier. We also had all the brick taken off the left and right ends of the porch due to the huge mortar cracks and displa...

Re: Weird things your POs did

The PO put in a basement bathroom with toilet. Apparently piping was hard to come by (this was the early 1980s!!!) so they took some white plastic buckets, cut out the bottoms, fit them end to end and used this getup as the outflow pipe from the toilet. We discovered it when we broke up a portion of...
