Asking for help with a 1990s bathroom?

Hi, I've been a member for a long while but not active for several year. The houses I've owned until recently all reflect my passion for old house: An 1870s farmhouse outside of Cincinnati, an 1896 brick and stone twin in Philly, a 1950 hand-build fishing cottage with lots of wonderful mid-century d...

What wood to install to complement heart pine...

My house has heart-pine flooring throughout, and I need to put flooring in the dining room, kitchen, and a connected hallway. I have decided to put prefinished hardwood, bamboo, or engineered hardwood throughout the three connected spaces. My question is, does anyone have suggestions about what to i...

Re: is the popularity of the stainless steel appliances waning?

I got this Electrolux: http://www.electroluxappliances.com/kitchen-appliances/ranges/gas/ew30gf65gs Looks like the MSRP has gone up a couple hundred since I bought it. Would I have ever paid over $2500 for a stove? Absolutely not - just not in my budget. But I absolutely LOVE it. LOVE. Not just beca...

Re: is the popularity of the stainless steel appliances waning?

I'm not a huge fan of stainless but my new stove is stainless because it had every feature I wanted (double oven, convection, five burners, continuous grill, excellent consumer reports rating) and through a fluke I managed to get it for $1000 when the MSRP is $2400. At that price, I would have taken...

Help me find an orange wall paint that I won't hate

I promised my 6yo granddaughter that she could paint her room in my 1930's farmhouse with arts and crafts pretensions, and she wants more than anything to paint it orange. I told her that I'd allow it if I chose the exact shade, but I'm having trouble finding something that doesn't feel as if it's g...

Re: Bath alcove tiling design help needed!

Thanks for the link! The biggest issue I have when looking at pics is that they all seem to be bathrooms MUCH larger than mine (which doesn't take much!!). I checked the measurements and mine is just over 45 sq ft, plus the walls are only 6.5 ft high which makes it feel even smaller. It's just hard ...

Re: what did you get done on your house today?

Way, way, way back here on the forums is a post where not only did I brag about the cost of the hex tile (less than $14 a box instead of $50+) on a return shelf at Lowes but I also laid it out on our living room carpet and posted the picture here. I think that was in 2009  Oh puhleeze, that's...
