Re: Brick Repair... better not quit my day job

man, that sucks! When I mixed a handful of mine I found that a 5 gallon bucket and a powerful drill with a paint mixing paddle on the end worked well. just like mixing grout for tiles! I have never done more than some patch repairs, but would have liked to give laying some bricks a try. No better pl...

Re: Small Holes & Gouges in Window Sashes, What to Fill With?

For most small holes, I use wood filler. For some larger holes I can do as was mentioned above and put a piece of wood + filler to fill the void. I heard once about people using sawdust mixed with bondo, and thought it sounded cool, so I did that on the one window I restored in my bedroom. That was ...

Re: Protecting baby from the fireplace

I can understand "setting them up for success" by having something in front to protect the kids, while also teaching them that's it's hot and unsafe. Best of both worlds. I do admit that I bought a trifold screen deal to set in front of the stove this year. It was 10 bucks and looked brand new at a...

Re: Protecting baby from the fireplace

BTW, a little Jotul 602cb or Morso 2b sitting right there would be sooo cute. Have you ever thought about a stove?

Re: Protecting baby from the fireplace

I don't bother with that stuff. Some of the first words out of my little girl's mouth were "hot hot" as she would waive her hand at the woodstove. Pairing the words ouchy, no, and hot will work wonders. BUT not everybody shares my viewpoint. There have been many discussions regarding this on the hea...

Re: Ridge Vents vs. Gable Vents vs. Both

I'm for simple, so I will make this short. 1. Go ahead and add your insulation, that's a definite no matter what. 2. As you said, you have no flow through. Add soffit vents that equal ridge flow. Adding gable vents would merely be to bypass the ridge flow. If you have two gable vents then that's gon...

I'm gonna assume you are attractive, at least to your hubby. You can win this one, I think you know what I mean.

If that doesn't work, then use logic and finances. Storm windows are wayy cheaper and will get you where you want to be.

Re: Did you finish off your attic?

Don't think of it so much as lost floorspace, but gained closetspace. I know that the closet will slope downward in the back, but that's a good space to store some luggage or something and then plenty of space for shelves or hanging stuff in the front.
