Re: Dormer stucco flashing with existing metal roof

I hope you guys can understand my project. I really need your help. (I have added a photo) I have a modern looking house and one of the features is a dormer-type feature that rises about the roof. The house is stucco over concrete block on the first floor and stucco over wood on the second floor. A...

Re: Fireplace renovation for row house circa 1900

I’d like to open up my sealed fireplace. Is this likely to be difficult? How do I pry this metal plate cover off the front of the fireplace without damaging the area around it? Any suggestions on how to go about opening up the fireplace Home Remodeling Potomac MD ? I don’t plan to use it, but thoug...

Re: Help me choose roof color

I am having trouble finding the right roof color to use. The roofer has recommended I go with desert tan. I can't decide if I like it or not. I kinda like colonial slate, but again am not sure if I like it. I also have thought about summer harvest. I have attached pictures below, tell me what you t...

Re: Window repair or replace

Hi All For this condominium I have, the windows are original from later 1980s. Several of the windows are foggy (seals are gone), some windows do not move up/ down well, one does not stay up, some don't shut properly, etc... these are typical (and I guess expected) with windows that are 30+ year ol...

Re: Driveways

@ RioG If your driveway is in rough shape, there are a few cost-effective solutions you can try before resorting to a full replacement. Here are some tips: Remove tree roots: If the tree roots are causing the driveway to buckle, you'll need to remove them. You can do this yourself by cutting the roo...

Re: Roof insulation

Hello! I’m in a bit of quandary here in regards to how best to approach insulating the roof of my 1842 brick home. Simply put, we have a third story that we don’t use. We don’t use it because it is in a state of disrepair. It has been on the project list for years and my wife and I have decided to ...

Re: Roofing -- How to choose a contractor?

I had our old house roof replaced, our primary house roof replaced and my son's townhome roof replaced in last couple of years and my advice is get at least 3 bids and in the case of non-asphalt roofing (such as your wood shakes or a standing seam metal roof), make sure the roofer is experienced in...

Re: Why I hate drywall!

I'm trying to repair walls in an old Victorian home. They were covered in ratty old wallpaper which I've scrapped off. Afterwards I fill the cracks with Durabond mixed with glue and paper tape (can't find fibafuze anywhere for miles) best roofing company in northern va . Now I'm on the second room a...

Re: Roofing -- How to choose a contractor?

I’m in the process of hiring a roofer to reshingle my house. As I can’t actually see what is being done or how, e.g. are there enough nails and are they located correctly, did they take the time to replace rotted sheathing and or rake boards, were the roof penetrations sealed properly, were good mat...
