Re: Brooklyn Rowhouse - Opinions on Condition
Where's the house located in Brooklyn? The condition looks fairly standard for a multi-family row house of this age. I see that it's got three electrical meters and they look relatively new. Since this kind of work requires a Con Ed blue card and a city inspection I'd be less concerned about electri...

Re: Slate flooring over porch? And leveling out?
I tiled my front "porch" with slate eight years ago. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3153/2685512590_b21d3e4f0e_o.jpg As a matter of fact, just yesterday I just bought all the stuff I need to regrout it. The deck gets direct sunlight all day long. With the cooler garage under it, the expansion/contra...

Re: Soundproofing ceiling
also fwiw.... a major part of sound transmission is simply the mass that the soundwaves have to vibrate. extra layers of drywall help by increasing mass. Not so practical for ceiling applications like you are talking about, but good for walls. Worked on a movie theater over the winter, and the shee...

Re: help me understand our building permit situation
I was in this situation years ago. I got tired of waiting for the electrician and the inspector to coordinate on times and moved on to installing drywall on the walls that didn't have electrical in them. The inspector failed me because of it. When I asked him why he said that he needed to confirm th...

Re: Where can I find matching base molding?
You can check out Dykes Lumber's catalog. Before I had my router table, I found a few matching moldings there.
Can you post a photo of the molding you're trying to match?

Re: How do you cut slots in a round piece of wood?
There are probably a dozen ways to do it. Part of the woodworking fun is figuring out the best solution which also won't leave you running to the ER. Since I like to make jigs (it's a good way to get rid of scrap plywood in the shop which I'd otherwise never throw away) I'd probably use a router tab...

Re: Cap & Trade Bill - Home Sales
1. A Federal inspection for energy efficiency must be conducted on any home before it is sold 2. New buildings must have capabilities to charge electirc vehicles 3. Building codes will be federally standardized to match that of California I've read the raw text of HR 2454 and I can't find any of th...
