Re: *Not* subway tile...

Thanks, guys! Guess what: we were able to use the new shower today for the first time, and was it a luxury!!!! The old bathroom was just gruesome, so this is really a creature comfort! Now we have to refinish the oak floor, finish the walls and ceiling, and all the little detail stuff. I'll have to ...

Re: *Not* subway tile...

Thanks, Daniel and Nettie! We bought several hundred tiles and some of the lots of gold tiles were of a slightly different color than other boxes of gold from different firings (they ranged from pale lemon to deep, dark gold), so we had to lay out the whole thing on the living and dining room floors...

*Not* subway tile...

For those who are interested in tiles other than subway tiles: We just got done tiling most of the bathroom shower with handmade Mexican Talavera tiles befitting our old New Mexican vernacular home, and finished most of the grouting yesterday except for a little on the bull noses of the door surroun...

Re: The Man Under The Tub!

HAHAHA!!!!! Here's a closer shot of the costume--check out the lacy cuffs and sash! And that way back in the day it was so COOL to be photographed with a cigarette in hand  He looks like he is trying to hide his wedding ring - Somethings never change! That's very observant! Maybe that'...

HAHAHA!!!!! Here's a closer shot of the costume--check out the lacy cuffs and sash! Maybe he was the first governor of New Mexico...on the other hand, he kinda looks like former NM Sen. Pete Domenici:

Re: The Man Under The Tub!

At first glance I thought it was a silent film star like Valentino, but I think he's some regional mariachi star, judging from the costume. I'll have to try and read the signature and see if I can google anything on him. The photos here just don't show the great detail in his clothes.

The Man Under The Tub!

We took out the old bathtub today and found this guy under the tub! It measures 30" x 20" or poster size. We also found an old newspaper dated 1937. There is a water damaged signature on the bottom right corner. I really want to keep this and frame it! It's damaged on the one side, but seems to be o...

Re: (Partial) Bathroom Renovation

Thanks, My4t2de! We put on the tile yesterday, but have go fetch some grout today. I'll post again when we have it really 'done.' We bought that sink almost 6 years ago when we first took possession of the house, and I'm so happy to have it out of storage and finally installed! About that hatch: the...

Re: Stone Outbuilding

Thanks, Melissa! Yes, that's some of the feeling we're aiming for, territorial period where this area was part of Mexico. The larger ceiling beams are called vegas, and if there are little ones, like those going perpendicular in the atrium roofing seen in the outside view photo, they are called lati...
