Re: New issue of Vic home mag...did it hurt you to read?

I love Victorian Homes Magazine. I sit down and flip through it right on the spot when it comes in the mail. When I came to the article referenced above, I went back and looked at it again. Just because it seemed so "off" to me. And the bedroom shot. . . I mean, really? It almost looks like a "befor...

We have always been big fans of Valspar products. You can find them @ Lowe's.

Re: Help With Research??

You can trace the previous owners of your house through the Recorder of Deeds office; once you have names you can always try to contact descendents. Local government offices may have information regarding building permits so you can see when changes were made. If your neighborhood has an historical ...

It is always a treat to see what you guys are working on next! Everything looks wonderful!

I love the colors you chose for the ceiling medallion. Is the medallion plaster or plastic?

Re: interior shutters

Maybe you could save a little moola by just putting the shutters on the bottom half, instead of the whole window? Every time we see old interior shutters in okay shape at yard sales, salvage shops, antique shows, etc. we grab them if the price is reasonable (they usually are - no one wants the bothe...

Re: Pittsburgh?

I've lived in Pgh. my entire life. The North Side is certainly not all "ghetto." The North Side is a very large area, and encompasses lots of little, varied neighborhoods, several of which are incredible historic districts, such as Allegheny West, the Mexican War Streets, Observatory Hill, part of M...

Re: Old Houses in Movies

Oh, there are so many great houses in the movies! One of my definite dream houses is the house in "Practical Magic". It was so hard to believe it was only a set (it was; there was an incredible article about it in Victoria magazine). I think one of the best of all time was the victorian in "Gaslight...

Re: Christmas is coming

Melissa and Oldhouseluvr, the pictures of your homes are lovely, as always. Brick, that tree - simply magical. As for our house, we tend to go all out. Our 9 1/2 ft. live tree is decorated chock-full with vintage glass balls (Shiny Brite!), family photos in tiny frames (thank you, Hallmark), victori...
